Lesson 6

Lesson Plan Title:  Fitnessgram Mile Post Test

Performance Objective: Increase heart rates by safely and responsibly running the Fitnessgram Mile Run Post-Test with a jog-run regiment and choose to perform according the best of your ability

Resources or Materials Needed: Students need their physical education uniforms and athletic shoes. The teacher needs a stopwatch, a roster with student’s names to record times, and a pencil.

Time: 1 hour

Step 1: Pre-Instructional Activities: Locker room, squad lines, warm up lines, Pe Shake App

Step 2: Content Presentation: Direct Instruction: Tell the students that they will be running the Fitnessgram Mile Run Post-Test. They will be assigned a partner. When running the mile, they need to complete four laps total. The goal is to complete the laps at the fastest speed possible for your current fitness level. Student may run, jog, and/or walk depending on their current cardiorespiratory endurance level. The students are encouraged to beat their pre-test time.

Step 3: Learner Participation: Students will work with partners today. Partner A will count the laps that Partner B completes. When Partner B is close to finishing their 4th lap, then Partner A will watch the clock and tell the teacher Partner B’s time. The roles will switch after all of the Partner B students finish their mile. After all students have ran the mile, the class captain will guide the class through the cool down routine.

Step 4: Assessment: Students are being observed and formatively assessed on their effort in the Fitnessgram Mile Run Post Test. Feedback will be given to the students individually based on their current score and their progress.

Step 5: Follow-Through Activities: Students are encouraged to take their teacher’s feedback and make a plan to improve their score by the next time they run the Fitnessgram Mile Test.

Lesson Plan Summary: The students will line up in the hall and wait for directions to enter the locker room. Once the students are in the locker room, they will get dressed into their physical education uniforms and athletic shoes. After getting dressed, the students line up in the locker room and wait for directions to enter the gym. Once the students enter the gym, they sit in squad lines while the teacher takes attendance. After attendance, the teacher instructs the students to go to their warm up lines and the teacher picks a captain. The captain for the day picks a game on the Pe Shape App and it explains it to the class. After the warm up is complete, the captain directs the class to sit near the white board. On the board, the teacher has wrote “Student A has the best time for the mile in the school. Her time is 7 minutes’ and 20 second.” This is a way to gain the student’s attention and get them excited. The students and teacher will walk to the school’s track. The first set of runners will line up and prepare to run. After all of the students in the first group finish, then the second group runs. Once the class is finished, the captain will lead the class through the cool down exercises. After the cool down, the students are instructed to go into the locker room and get dressed in their school uniform. Once finished, they wait for the teacher to dismiss them.
